Cleaning Before Moving Out

Buying a new house was the most wonderfully exciting day of my adult life. I won't say that it wasn't scary, because it was, but I finally felt like I was officially a grown-up. My husband and I celebrated our new investment over a nice dinner and started making tons of plans. It wasn't until I turned out the lights that night and crawled into bed that I realized, this means I need to start moving out. I suddenly wasn't sleepy anymore. As excited as we were, I absolutely dreading moving day. Packing up and moving out is the most least exciting thing I could imagine. We talked about hiring movers but it would have cost us entirely too much considering the fact that we were only moving ten miles away. Besides, I wasn't that lazy, just not thrilled. I procrastinated for as long as possible before I absolutely had to face the facts - we were moving out. And soon.

We had been renting a house and the new tenants would be moving in as soon as we signed the papers on our new house. That meant that absolutely everything had to be out beforehand. We panicked, wondering what in the world we were supposed to do for several days. My parents and grandparents graciously offered to let us move things into their basements and garages for temporary storage, which would help us a great deal. However, that meant we'd be moving things around to several different locations and that could be even more of a nuisance. Nevertheless, I was determined to make moving out as painless as possible. I tried to be as organized as possible when we were packing. I labeled all of the boxes with the room they were to go in. I wrote fragile on the boxes if necessary and neatly stacked packed boxes out the way. We took turns driving boxes around to store at our relatives' houses. Before we knew it, we'd be moving out in exactly one week and soon would be homeowners.

Moving day approached was horribly hot and sticky. I was less than thrilled but signing the papers brought lots of smiles to my face. I barely had time to celebrate because our main focus that day was moving out before the new tenants arrived to start moving in. We had managed to gather some wonderful friends to help us and I can happily say that moving out was not nearly as horrible as what I had thought it would be. Sure, some things got lost and a few items got broken or damaged, but there weren't any huge disasters. Once all of the boxes and furniture was placed in the correct rooms, I looked at my husband and sighed. Now came the tedious task of moving in. Here we go again.
